Solidarity is calling for agency workers to have the same rights as directly employed staff, right from day one of each new job. Agency workers often earn less than those in direct employment, are not allowed to benefit from employer's contributions to a pension scheme and are given less holiday, little or no access to training and no contractual sick pay.
Solidarity wants protection for these vulnerable workers. We want to see an agreed directive or change in British law to protect agency workers. Too many employers are replacing permanent staff on reasonable terms and conditions with badly paid insecure agency staff. Often migrant workers are exploited and used in this way. Solidarity believes that too many migrant workers have been allowed to come here we also believe that if employers were forced to grant them reasonable conditions their financial motive in exploiting them and encouraging the trend would be largely eliminated.
